About this collection

Over 350 photographs of Minneapolis scenes, houses, and members of the Wallof family from the 1890s and the 1910s. Donated by Harold E. Vanderwater.

William Gustav Wallof (1872-1949) was an amateur photographer, originally from St. Louis. He lived for many years with his brother Edward in the Kenwood neighborhood, then later in rooming houses. Little is known about him. His photographs were discovered years after his death in the attic of a house where he had rented a room. They were given to antique photo collector Harold E. Vanderwater, who donated them to the Library in 1984, shortly before his death.
